Been digging a bit in the VHS family library. These S-VHS helmet camera shots were taken during a flight between F13 Bråvalla and F17 Kallinge in 1993. From WC USA, Sweden has apparently had a small but powerful military for years which would make Russia think twice before attacking Sweden especially now that Sweden is in NATO! Makes me proud to be 50% Swedish! My grandparents on my father’s side came to the U.S. in the 1890’s and became farmers in Northern Illinois!

I decided to time stamp some Viggen sounds because I figured some of yall are intrested. My dad has helped me with identifying these sounds since he flew the Jaktviggen. 0:11 Over G warning. The short little PRT sound is the high Alpha warner. The sounds that sound like morse code is the over g. 0:30 Radar lock sound. You have now locked on to a target. 0:36 High Alpha warning for a split sec, followed by the high G warning again. 1:04 Stall? High G? 1:21 high Alpha 1:37 Radar lock and spooling of the Rb 74. 2:19 RWR warner. If I remember right, this is the lock warning. 2:46 RB 74 sounds. I sadly dont know tho which sounds are for spooling, locking etc. 3:07 High G warning. 3:20 Radar lock with Sidewinder music. This is all I got now. I will add on more tomorrow but I am currentley lying in bed and gotta sleep.
Viggens vrål i vårt luftrum är något man saknar! Växte upp i Norrköping, inte långt från F13. Underbar maskin

Mycket passande låtar från ”TOP GUN” till detta klipp. Själv har jag suttit i ett Viggen AJ37 när jag växte upp på 60& 70 - talet och om jag minns rätt så stod det ”52” på stjärtfenan på det planet och då var det helt omålat och den har stått på KTH i Stockholm. Det fanns en J35 Draken innan Viggen planet ställdes i samma hall men den numret på stjärtfenan minns jag inte som jag också har suttit i med också på KTH i Stockholm. Mycket bra filmat.
Det han säger om Draken och Viggen är inte tydligt nog jämföra Viggen och Draken vad var '1) aerodynamisk prestanda 2) motor prestanda ( någonting måste skjussa på när du kurvar + flygplanskroppen måste bita tag i luften ) 3) radar, BVR förmåga att se och organisera. 4) kommunikation och ledning Det vi kan höra här är att det var lätt och hoppa i en Viggen men det skvallrar också om att Draken hade brister. Och det är väl det mest interessanta.
Vad hette flygchefen på F13 ca hösten 1990 ?

SAAB JA37 VIGGEN - the very fighter jet that inspired American producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson to make the film "Top Gun" due to a specific Saab commercial back in the day meant to showcase main Saab products so they hired visual director Tony Scott to finish the job, based on this... ruclips.net/video/PM3woO0AbCw/видео.html&ab_channel=Marcus%26Manuela%CC%81sSaabChannel The gorgeous "Viggen/Thunderbolt", capable of knocking roof tiles off of houses if flying too low too fast (happened once to my family summer house while the Swedish air force was patroling our area of the Swedish archipelago for "MIGs" and got too close with the afterburner doing its thing... most of the roof tiles popped off and ended up on the ground and my family members had impaired hearing for quite a while and grandpa called the airforce asking them what the hell they were up to... and who would fix the roof). The engine of this jet is enormous and it will completely wreck your ears if flying too close near mach 1. Appropriate music as well... and Bråvalla was the setting of one of the most iconic and legendary Viking battles ever to take place in Scandinavia (if it actually happened) between Swedes, Geats and Danes. Very fitting

I know it's an old video but I have a question as I see it it seems no plane is fully armed no flight is fully loaded in many vidos but you have to go up and defend our border so you go up for border control but no weapons so how did you know if it was an attack or not
SwAF QRA has historically mainly been carried out with armed canons. On JA37 it's a built in 30mm Oerlikon canon. Swedish radars see all the way across the Baltic Sea, hence the QRA already has a pretty good idea of what to expect before they take off. As I understand, the reason why QRA by standard is not fully equipped with A2A missiles is because the intention is not to come across as aggressive and provocative. The intention is to mark presence and to document for intelligence purposes. As an example, when U137 ran aground and got stuck in 1981, there was a lot of movement/activity on the Sovjet side. At F13 (and probably other air wings as well) you had everyone in high-alert. Jerry told me they were a four-ship on the runway, fully loaded out, engines running, following the developments across the radio. Luckily, tension de-escalated and they were never launched against any attacking sovjet forces. The point is, configuration and load-out was based on the threat and situation.
@@MIPousette I believe a bunch of Rb04 was transferred to the bases. Did F6 and F7 transfer to other fields (Moholm/Hagshult ?) Which basically means : ok we will try to sink you.

Viggen was a beast.. i really like to fly it in DCS - i wonder why it never was exported, but i guess the US were involved (deal regarding the engine or smth i heard) it would have outclassed many planes out there.. and also the Draken (just compare it to the crappy Starfighter... Draken was as fast und just better in every other aspect)

Sveriges kalla kriget försvar var mkt imponerande. Var in i ett mobförråd i norrbotten helt berg utsprängt när ljuset tändes stog där tusentals lastbilar och stridsvagnar helt makalöst.
